Key Message/s

  • The observance aims to build public awareness of the need for quality and safe blood, honor and recognize blood donors, and encourage regular blood donation
  • In the world, someone is in need of a blood almost every 2 seconds, and one donation could potentially save three lives.
  • Blood donation has many health benefits; some of which are: sheds extra calories, reduces blood cholesterol level, replenished red blood cells, etc.           
  • Schistosomiasis or Snail Fever Disease is a parasitic disease common among farmers, fishermen, and their families.
  • Schistosomiasis is endemic in the Philippines and is caused by the wormSchistosomiasis japonicum
  • Complications of the disease could lead to heart failure, seizure, then death.
    • JULY was designated National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) by Executive Order No. 137 dated August 10, 1999. The observance, which is led by the National Risk Reduction and Management Council, aims to increase every Filipino’s preparedness for the safety of our people. This year’s theme “Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan.”
    • Equipping ARMM constituents with a thorough knowledge on risk reduction measures can help deter significant loss of life, limb, and property in times of bad weather conditions.
  • Worldwide, 54% of Under-5 death is caused by malnutrition. In ARMM, 28.8% of children less than 5 years of age are underweight, Philippines average is 26.2%. ARMM has also higher rate in terms of stunting with 34.7%, Philippines has 27.9%.
  • Malnutrition is associated withassociated with complications during and after delivery, acute respiratory infections, diarrhea, measles and malaria.
  • This year’s Nutrition Month theme focuseson encouraging Filipinos to increase consumption of vegetables to address micronutrient deficiencies and prevent non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes.
